A company that started with a Father and Son has stood through the ups and downs serving mainly the agricultural business in Michigan’s Thumb and beyond for nearly 30 years.  Carl Parsell, along with his son Jeff as you may remember, once owned the Boron Gas Station located where the Municipal Building parking lot is currently.   For a change of pace Carl tapped into his knowledge from working at the Co-operative Elevator in Pigeon for over 20 years and decided that he and Jeff along with his son-in-law Gareth Helmuth would purchase the Greenleaf Elevator, which they operated for about 4 years.  Seeing the need for repair men in the grain elevator business, d/s Services as we know it today was started.  They used their relationships with other elevators and their experience in elevator operation as a way to get started in the repair, installation, and service business. About 70% of today’s business is focused on Grain Handling, Grain Storage, and Grain Drying to both the Farmer and the Commercial Grain Facilities.  Bringing some diversity into the business was personnel elevators.   Personnel Elevators located in Grain Facilities, some city waste water treatment plants, and various other areas, gave the company steady year-round work.  Jeff became certified in the inspection and new installation of these elevators.  These elevators are basically a simplified version of an elevator in a hotel with 1-2 man capacity.  Today d/s Services covers the entire state in the inspection and new installations of these Manlifts, as we refer to them.  The next area of business was crane rental.  In seeing the need for cranes within their own line of work, crane rental became a natural fit.  Back in the early - mid 90’s the company purchased its first crane, a 14 Ton Boom Truck.  Today after a few upgrades along the way, the company now owns two machines, A Grove 40 Ton Truck Crane and a GMK 55 Ton All Terrain Crane.  Currently, d/s Services Inc. is expanding and developing in other areas such as a walk in business, specializing in steel sales, bearings, and General Purpose Baldor Motors, paint, etc.  Today, we employee 12 Full time employees, along with some seasonal & part time help.  So with a little diversity in the company, and a strong agricultural forecast, we continue to strive forward today at our present location just south of town at 3999 Cemetery road.
